When’s the best time for a Mediterranean cruise?

Could September be the perfect month to enjoy a holiday in the sun?

Where is the best sunshine destination this September? Look no further. The Mediterranean, well-known for being inviting at any time of the year, is the perfect choice. A warm climate, gentle waters, magical places to visit, traditional events and sun-soaked cuisine, what more could you ask for?

September, the perfect month to up anchors!

Forget about July and August – if there is a perfect time to set sail and discover the Mediterranean region, cit is the month of September. There are fewer tourists around so the region will be recovering its traditional charms and you’ll also be able to
enjoy the sunshine without being overwhelmed by stifling heat; September is a time when the beauties of the Mediterranean Sea are sure to be revealed.

And of course, prices at stop-offs will only be more affordable once the main summer season is over. Choosing a cruise in September will allow you to enjoy the sunshine for longer whilst avoiding the drawbacks of holidays in July and August. But the Mediterranean, is a big place! If you’re wondering where to visit and what sights to see you’re not alone.

The Mediterranean: where to stop off and what to see?

The Mediterranean Sea borders three continents so a cruise here is a perfect way to discover some divine scenery and incredibly rich cultures. On a Mediterranean cruise in September, you’ll explore diverse and astonishing landscapes. Sail towards surprising places like the red coves of the Esterel Massif on the Côte d’Azur, the Abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte in Italy, which is accessible only by boat, or Calypso cave in Malta. The Mediterranean, is also home to a huge variety of towns to visit.

Whether you’d like to explore Capri, the Island of Love, lose yourself amid the Venetian canals in Burano and Murano or enjoy the pristine beauty of Santorini or Rhodes in Greece, the Mediterranean s overflowing with treasures awaiting those who take the time to explore them. These towns are real hotbeds of culture and abound in traditional events and festivals which are simply unmissable.

Events in the sunshine to expand your horizons!

If you are on your way to the Mediterranean in September, you simply have to stop off in Porto to see a romaria. During these religious festivals, which take place from 15 August to 30 September, many processions of locals dressed in paper costumes take over the streets.
If you’re not afraid of getting your hands dirty, you could check out or even join in the Tomatina in the town of Buñol near Valencia, the last Wednesday in August. This is an occasion for locals to take part in a merciless battle… by throwing tomatoes!
Another place, another event – still in September. Head towards the Grand Canal in Venice for the Regata Storica, the world’s only gondola race! This is a historic regatta in period costumes.

And for culture vultures, Cyprus is the place to be. In September and October, the island’s rich programme of cultural events is still in full swing with the Cyprus International Film Festival, open-air opera at the Aphrodite Festival, theatre and classical music at the Kypria Festival, handicrafts and Cypriot traditions at the Ayia Napa Festival and more!

Mouth-watering Mediterraean cuisine!

Good food is at the heart of Mediterranean culture. and you’ll be sure to love the delicious fare served up all around this vast coastline this season. Here are a few morsels to tempt your tastebuds: octopus a feira or salpicon in Malaga, Roman supplì and Sicilian arancini as a starter in Italy, Turkey’s beloved manti, dumplings, Lebanese shish taouk and to finish off with something sweet, a Greek galaktoboureko. You’ll discover countless typical foods on every stop-off. When it comes to drinks, you’ll doubtlessly succumb to a pastis in Marseille, a Venetian spritz or a Spanish tinto de verano. so take a seat on the terrace and enjoy the endless sea views.

Make September the month you disembark, explore, soak in the culture and sample the delicious cuisine at the four corners of the Mediterranean Sea.
