This was the challenge taken up by Jos\u00e9 Sarica, expedition experiences director at PONANT, and Mathieu Tinsigrilaras, second captain of the PONANT fleet. However, they would never have been able to achieve their goal without the expertise and experience of <strong>Nicolas Dubreuil, a polar explorer, co-founder of SEDNA and former PONANT expedition leader<\/strong>, who over the years has forged strong links with the inhabitants of this remote region in the<a href=\"https:\/\/escales.ponant.com\/us\/visit-greenland\/\" target=\"_blank\" 74\u00b0).<\/li>\n<li>Its <strong>average temperature<\/strong> is below zero for nine months of the year.<\/li>\n<li>Access to the village by air is very limited due to weather conditions.<\/li>\n<li>The inhabitants\u2019 way of life retains many of their<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/escales.ponant.com\/us\/myths-inuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Inuit traditions<\/a><\/strong>, with hunting and fishing providing a large part of their livelihood, and <a href=\"https:\/\/escales.ponant.com\/us\/dog-sledding-north-pole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>dog sleds<\/strong><\/a> offering the main mode of transport.<\/li>\n<li>The village is located in <strong>one of the oldest areas of human settlement in the Arctic<\/strong>, as its first inhabitants arrived there in the second millennium BC.<\/li>\n<li>The current settlement dates fromthe early 20th century. It was with these hunters that Jos\u00e9, Mathieu and Nicolas came up with and tested some of the<strong> immersive experiences<\/strong> they could offer PONANT\u2019s voyagers. These included a polar dog sledding trek and a <strong>night on the ice floe<\/strong>, wildlife watching, ice diving,<strong> snorkelling in the middle of the ice<\/strong> in a wetsuit, hiking and snowshoeing, traditional <strong>kayaking<\/strong> and overnight<a href=\"https:\/\/escales.ponant.com\/us\/introduce-inuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> stays with local people<\/a>.
