Unlike the other islands in the archipelago, which are of volcanic origin, <strong>Anegada<\/strong> is a raised limestone atoll measuring 19 km long by 5 km wide. Some call it<strong> \u2018drowned island\u2019, <\/strong>as its highest point is just 9 m above sea level. Come and explore the wide, often deserted, sandy beaches of this secluded island, a secret Eden of almost submerged lands. Having almost disappeared completely, flamingos and Antillean iguanas have now found a wonderful refuge here nestled between the magnificent beaches and turquoise lagoons, palm trees and shrubs, salt marshes and ponds. In 1969, she applied to join the <em>Tektite<\/em> project, an underwater laboratory anchored some 13 m deep in Great Lameshur Bay on Saint John Island <strong>in the American Virgin Islands<\/strong> (the BVI\u2019s southern neighbours). The project allowed scientists to live submersed in their area of study for several weeks. Despite not being chosen for this adventure, Sylvia Earle reapplied the following year for the <strong><em>Tektite II<\/em> programme<\/strong>: this time, she was selected to lead the mission and the <strong>first all-female team of aquanauts<\/strong>. Upon her \u2018release\u2019, Sylvia Earle established herself as a strong and fervent patron of the seabed well beyond the scientific
