Mosychlos \u2013 Lemnos Island, Greece<\/h3>\n

The volcanoes of the Aleutian Islands \u2013 Alaska, United States<\/h3>\n

Stretching for almost 1,800 kilometres, the Aleutian Islands are evidence of the seismic activity in this part of the\u00a0<\/span>Pacific Ring of Fire<\/strong>. Although not officially declared extinct, Mombacho hasn\u2019t erupted since 1570. The vegetation has made the most of this to reclaim its territory: the slopes are home to a cloud forest and to tropical flora that is now rare in\u00a0<\/span>Nicaragua<\/a>. Particularly easy to access, it provides superb views of the\u00a0<\/span>city of Granada<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Lake Nicaragua<\/strong>, proving that walking on the side of a volcano isn\u2019t necessarily dangerous!<\/span><\/p>\n

Pico do Fogo \u2013 Cape Verde<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>highest point of<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Cape Verde<\/a>\u00a0can also be its hottest: this volcano erupts effusively, spewing boiling red lava. Its basalt flows have shaped the ribbed landscape of the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>island of Fogo<\/strong>, which is inhabited along the coastline.
